Nicaya Kennels & Dog Sled Race Team
The Breed
Siberian Huskies are
medium-sized friendly
working dogs, quick and light
on their feet and free and
graceful in action, and make
great companions. Their
moderately compact and well
furred body, erect ears and
brush tail make them well
suited for extreme cold
conditions. Their
characteristic gait is smooth
and seemingly effortless. They
perform their original
function in harness most
capably, carrying a light load
at a moderate speed over great
distances. Their body
proportions and form reflect
this basic balance of power,
speed and endurance.
Siberians, thus, are one of the
original sled dogs found
throughout history and
pulling sleds is a thrill and
running is a passion for them.
Nicaya Kennels Siberians are working dogs, bred for temperament, soundness and workability. They are lovable companions striving to be a part of the family and willing to have fun and work hard on the trail.
Pat Northcutt founded Nicaya Kennels in 2003. She was later joined by Pete Northcutt who became the primary musher and trainer for the kennels. Timber Venard joined them in 2006. Thus far, Nicaya Kennels has produced nearly thirty viable racing dogs. Our numbers continue to grow with the appearance of new puppies.
Below is a little bit more about the human people and the canine people!

The Humans
Pete, 47, has been mushing since 2005. Pete owned
his first Siberian at the age of 17 and dreamed of dog
sledding since. He is the primary trainer, caretaker
and musher for the kennels. His personal goals are to
have Siberian teams that consistently complete
competitive races including the Iditarod and the
Yukon Quest. Pete holds advanced degrees in Geology
and Geo-engineering and loves the outdoors and
extreme adventures. You may contact Pete using e-
mail at pete@nicayasiberians.com
Timber, 33, has worked all sorts of trades from the
nursing field to bartending to cabinet making. As a
small boy, he wanted to be a veterinarian. On his
first mushing trip, he became addicted. He blames
Pete for his interest and addiction to dog mushing.
He has since become the kennel’s managing handler
and secondary musher, not to mention public
relations advisor. He is looking to add more freight
dogs to the kennel and would like to start competing
in freight-pulling competitions as well as mid-
distance and long-distance races. Timber is
currently working on his Bachelor of Science in
Naturology and Herbal Health. You may contact
Timber using e-mail at timber@nicayasiberians.com
